Inspired by Mickey Newbury's writing, this was the first of 3 songs written as to seek his approval. We became good friends after I opened his show at The Sweetwater in Mill Valley in the late 1980s. Mickey used call me about every 3 months. He would sing new songs he had been writing. I would record him over the phone without his knowledge. It was like Jerry Seinfeld getting a call from Superman. I would disbelieve it was happening so I could concentrate enough to have a conversation. Mickey you are missed.
