Paint Your Eyes In a field of grass There’s an empty shed Where Telly spends his days And his words are few So he Paints the view Of his world His father was a traveling man He traveled to and fro And forced a tear Should his son come near And ask him not to go (Chorus) Telly paint your eyes On the canvas of the world For the colors that you’ve found They are not there And the world through your eyes Is a world of the angles And you’ve got so much to give To those who care Within his shed he paints a day The way a day should be Wordless strokes of colored rhyme Content with all we see And somewhere in the silent night The winds of time did call He heard their fears Of lifeless years Now hears no more at all (Chorus) Telly paint your eyes On the canvas of the world For the colors that you’ve found They are not there And the world through your eyes Is a world of the angles And you’ve got so much to give To those who care In a field of grass There’s an empty shed Where Telly spends his days And his words are few So he Paints the view Of his world His words are few So he paints the view of his world

The Elephant Hotel She went down to the bowery In a brand new pair of boots Past burlesque shows, bath houses Postcards and prostitutes She walked across the boardwalk For what she’d never tell And checked into a room at The Elephant Hotel He took her to a side show Magicians on the pier Later to a ballroom To dance and have a beer They went down to the water And into it they fell Like many more before them at The Elephant Hotel Complete with tusk and trunk An elephant was made With rooms inside it’s body Cigar store in it’s leg The lure was like and undertow It grabbed him by his sleeve Some would come and go But he would never leave He’d gone out to the island To ride The Switch Back Rail And took himself a job at the Elephant Hotel Now he’s checking in the rubes At the Elephant Hotel

Halo 02:25
HALO Halo You’ve left me forsaken You’re looking mighty low Her heart is breakin You used to float over my head (least she said you did) Now you’re down round my neck What a wreak of a man I am Leaving her all alone Halo I can’t say I blame you I used to look in her eyes Now I’m ashamed to I thought she done me wrong (so wrong) And so I went and did something worse It hurts now that I know She had been true all along I’m a fool but love don’t seem to care It don’t care about me it don’t care about her Halo Why don’t you leave me Why are you sticking around She don’t believe me You used to float over my head (least she said you did) Now you’re down round my neck What a wreak of a man I am She’s left me all alone Haaaaloooo

He thinks it might be better that way He thinks it might be better that way He thinks it might be better that way He thinks it might be better that way He's up in the morning after the others He's putting on both of his clothes Transmits himself to the bathroom From there he doesn't know where it goes He can't remember his history class And he never took chemistry But he always calls a banana potassium And he knows the words to Let It Be (He knows the words to Let It Be) Someday he's going to drive cross country In a car with girl named Gus And together they'll play lots of backgammon In the back of their VW bus But all these dreams they take money And so far he needs a little bit more Between paying off fines and his lottery bill With a job at the cookie store (He's got a job at the cookie store) And his mom and dad want the best for him They worry in front of him night and day Though he doesn't drink They send him to the rehabilitation center Because it's better gossip if he's locked away And now he's thinking of his girlfriend in the suburbs The one he met playing Pong in the mall She took the paddle away from him Together they had a ball He unlocks the door to the bathroom now And He thinks it might be better that way He thinks it might be better that way He thinks it might be better that way He thinks it might be better that way

Indoor Moon 05:30
Indoor Moon One day I’ll come round and see it your way Right or wrong It’s the long way I’ve been here before My friends Do not change when I change They stand tall And tell me if I’ve changed They can’t see it much at all Blue Screen Lights up my room Like and indoor moon New scenes Shown too soon to see Faces Talking to each other While I sing another song From inside my head Grey Skies Empty rooms And water eyes Ice Cream Cones And cherry pies Can not stop my song Blue Screen Lights up my room Like and indoor moon New scenes Shown too soon to see One day I’ll come round and see it your way Right or wrong It’s the long way I’ve been here before You light up my room Like an indoor moon

Silver Earrings The sun shines on the water Sparkling crystal and clean Sometimes it calls As water that falls Into a heart And out through a dream Taking the buses home each night The people all going somewhere I can't tell my right from left And don't know what's bad or best You know that I know We both need to get some rest Chorus So lay down those silver earrings Lay down those golden chains Lay them all down and come help me watch how it Watch how it Watch how it rains All of the car seats are empty The bars on the street have all closed If you think I don't care About the distance we share It goes as it comes And comes as it goes You say there's nothing out there to believe in There's nothing left out there to be You can't find an open door Until you know what door you're looking for You know that I know There's nothing less and nothing more Chorus

Brand New 03:10
Brand New Try to find the sun. It's over the building Through the walls. Do you see it sinking With us this time. The street , the heat of an engine burning Check your breath at the counter - drive through It's all so new. All brand new Those are mountains I've seen them on T.V. These must be the real ones Try to catch a minute Stop your watch and see if you still move Cast frozen from trying to save the time it takes to Take the time to save it save it Log the data through These things are all brand new Born within the wires But we have lived without them Can you call, can you call, can you call me To die without a phone. Turn out the light. Is the heat on?  What's wrong - wrong with this T.V. We haven't had it that long How long will we have it? How long? Turn out the light Try to save the time it takes to take the trime to save it Unplug it when you through These things are all brand new Turn out the light and lay your eyes down in the darkness. Keep them warm Despite what they have seen Fight the wars for gasoline Until we are without it We're gonna Burn burn burn burn burn Cast frozen from trying to save the time it takes to Take the time to save it save it Smoke of red and blue These things are all brand new Try to find the sun Its over the buildings through the walls Do you see do you see do you see it Sinking

Alone In Love How many years? Where does the time go? I know you loved me the best you could Some part of me just misunderstood I've been alone thinking we were in love The days changed so fast If I could have just slowed them down some Know that I loved you the best I could If I could start over you know that I would 'cause I've been alone thinking we were in love There's nothing colder Than knowing his arms are keeping you warm I won't stay long I just had to see you again The judge let me out But you set me free 'cause I've been alone I've been alone, been alone, been alone I've been alone thinking we were in love

The Fool In Me Well you know how it goes >From time to time I wonder Does it take a heart to break To make the fool inside me see? When she sleeps sometimes I feel A part of me is missing Something lost within that silence Like a touch I cannot feel Lord I never felt alone Until I had someone to leave me And I've fought with all I've left To never feel that way again If I've left you for so long That you must try to love another May I only loose the lover May she always be my friend Sitting down by the highway With no way back And no way home You know how it goes >From time to time I wonder Does it take a heart to break To make the fool in side me see When she sleeps sometimes I feel A part of me is missing Something lost within that silence A touch I cannot feel

DOWN THE ROAD I can see by the hour It’s time to leave They’re closing it down We’ll go There’s little to say But I believe There’s something better down the road Down the road Down the road Out in the cold You feel like your ready to fold Faith can replace The fear that you face And help you hold on to your soul Hold on to your soul If I could sing One last song I know just what I’d do I’d find a song Deep in my heart Like this one I’m singing to you Down the road Down the road Young become old And stories get changed as they’re told Nothing can change A life that remains Like someone you have there to hold Someone you have you can hold

about

This was put together in 2014. This is like a demo I guess in that all the songs were performed live or live in the studio with no overdubs. Its solo. I like to hear songs this way as it really shows off the songwriting with no bells and whistles aka overdubs.

I Ride Alone was from a show I opened for Peter Rowan at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. It was around 1993 ....Written in 1981

Paint Your Eyes I wrote in 10th grade at while living with Tim Dawe. It is a song about a painter who hears no more. 1981

The Elephant Hotel: Written in Phoenix Az on an airplane going to North Carolina to perform at a wedding. I spent my down time working on this song about a real hotel that existed at Coney Island and burned down in 1900. 2001

Halo was written for an Arizona local, great country singer, named Scott Ebersol. Unfortunately Scott passed away before he had a chance to record it. He was able to sing it live a few times and just before he died told me how much he appreciated the song. 2002

Little Bit Of You: One of a few songs written in Los Angeles while under the spell of strong debilitating mind medications .This song was inspired by a singer songwriter I met in Arizona named Monk Wilson. He put out a CD but before that he gave me a wonderful cassette tape of several original songs that I listened to for years. He is one of a kind but he gave up songwriting and there are only a few videos of his music on YouTube. Check it out! 2007

Years Of Change: Written in the summer of 1983 while in high school this song was a feeling captured all at once.

Greed: Performed live at Fiddler's Dream in Phoenix Arizona. I think this might be the only time I performed this song live. It is another Randy Newman style lyric and character. Short and to the point. 1999

Think It Might Be Better That Way: Another song I do not perform very often. Written while living in the Oakland Ashram or Vishnu Dharma Center in 1985.

Justice: Written in 10th grade at Tim Dawe's house. I will never forget when I finished the song I played it for Tim who said he couldn't believe a 16 years old had such strong views on The Death Penalty and could express them the way this song does. He said it reminded him of early Dylan. I had not listened to much early Dylan or any Dylan at that time so I was thrilled. 1981

Indoor Moon is a love song to a television and or a woman but not always in that order.... Phoenix Arizona. 2003

Nowheresville: A letter to an imaginary friend. Sandy was the name of my favorite babysitter when I was a kid but the rest was total fiction. 1981

Silver Earrings was the first real love song I ever wrote. 1984

Brand New: A song about how all the new inventions we act like have been here for centuries. How long will we have them? I wonder. 1993

Keeping Score: Not always a good thing for a friend to do but sometimes it helps when it comes down to pointing out mishaps along the way. A rare song written during my mind medication period. 2011

Rodeo: My sister took me to her friend's house to record Rodeo. It was written for my old drummer friend Marc Garay. 2011

Alone In Love: Written in 1990.

4 Years Old: This little classical folk song was patterned after old Paul Simon songs musically. Written in 1983

Hey Baby: Performed only once time at Tony's New York Lounge in Tempe Az. Written and performed in 1995.

The Fool In Me: The saddest song about love in my book of sad love songs. "I never felt alone until I had someone to leave me." 1995

Down The Road: A song I wrote just so I could perform it at Joe's Grotto to close out the Open Mic on Monday nights. Unfortunately I never memorized the song so it sat in a file for years never having been heard. 2004
