Blooming Grove Valley
In Blooming Grove Valley
There's a stream that flows through
Spiders, tadpoles, and vast skies of blue
At the morning's arise old rooster he cries
The children are up and about in the dew
Duncan and Peter are best friends it seems
In ten years of life they have sketched out their dreams
And they've yet to pay mind to the movement of time
Each morning they roll down the hill to the stream
Hunting for butterflies, spiders and frogs
Stepping on stones, crossing on logs
They both know it well it's a live fairy tale
It's leprechauns, folk songs, and old Santa Clause
In Blooming Grove Valley the stars shine so bright
Duncan and Pete camp out each Friday night
For it's in every man to sleep out on the land
They unroll their bag on the Willow Pass Height
They lie in the air and towards the sky stare
The speak of the future yet preach unaware
They never pay mass to the ventures of past
As for things left down stream they just haven't a care
In Blooming Grove Valley children stare at the stars
Teens do their courting in the back seats of cars
Wives watch the news, their husbands all snooze
While single men drink and toast stories in bars
For Duncan & Peter their futures look fine
They know not what they're missing
So they'll never pay mind
They'll live in the shell of this live fairy tale
And roll down the hill to the stream in their time
Down Down Down in Blooming Grove Valley

When The Moon Slips Under the Sky
Words and music David Grossman 1983
It was old but it ran so I drove it around town
Stopping for a sandwich, shake , and fries
Or to talk to the girls who'd gather in the parking lot
When the moon slipped under the sky
They'd dance Saturday night in the old abandon barn
Their shadows smiled never asking why
I used to stand away and watch their shadows play
While the moon slipped under the sky
Skating
The organ player played our parent's favorite songs
But still we sang along
In a whispered lullaby
As the moon slipped under the sky
Carrying dreams we searched to make them real
Thinking then that dreams would become lives
Only to find they were ways to pass the time
While the moon slipped under the sky
I still have that car in a fading photograph
Sometimes I wish I could go back for ride
And watch the shadows dance
To dreams warp'd in romance
When the moon slips under the sky

Country Store
The old homestead is Dobins California
Population 105
The center of town is the store here off the apple grove
Across the way from Luther's drive
Chorus
We got a coke machine
We're pumping gasoline
On the game we got the latest score
So if you're driving through town
You'd better come on down
And see us at the country store
My grand dad built this store when he turned 18
He was looking to make a buck
In a year or two they put that interstate through
My grand dad always lived with luck
The truckers would stop and get groceries
The farmers a case of Coors
The traveling man
He'd come and fill his gas can
All here at the country store
Little John
My grand dad's only son
Took over the store last May
Now the world's moving faster
Poor old grand dad's out to pasture
And I'm working here about most everyday
I'm crushing boxes in the back
Then I tie them in a stack
And leave them on the interstate
It's 85 degrees
Sun is shaded through the apple trees
We're closing soon it's getting kind of late (Chorus)

Video Games
Took my sweetheart to a movie
In the lobby what did I see
It wasn't a popcorn stand with gum and candy
It wasn't a preview poster for future movies
It wasn't a rest room for men or ladies but...
Chorus
Video games
Video games
The greatest thing to happen since pizza and dames
I knew it was a hit
Right then and there
'cause all you've got to do is push a button and stare
Oh, video games
Video games and me
I took her to lunch but before we had some fun
Sitting in the park underneath the sun
When in that restaurant huddled away
It seems a new game had come out
That very day
With my quarter in my hand I was ready to play the
Chorus
I was sitting in the airport
Waiting for the plane
Taking a trip from here to Spain
When by the door
I thought I saw
A video screen and that's not all
Two video screens
I just sat there in awe
A choice had to be made because
My plane had been called I chose the

Arc Of The Rainbow
Passing by the park bench
Where that old man sits each day
While waiting for his time to come
He waited his life away
So I guess I'll climb to the top of the mountain
Walk to the edge and let go
And hope I fall into tomorrow's rainbow
Walking with me is like a seesaw
If you're up I'm feeling down
To balance it right you got to hold on tight
Keep your feet on the ground
But when that seesaw cracks in the middle
And both sides sink so low
It's time to try to find tomorrow's rainbow
Take some time and think it through
Walk around the back of a lonely little shack
Listen to the bluebirds chirp the blues
If it makes you feel better
Standing in the stormy weather
If you think that rain is going to help you to forget her
It seems like a cold way to go
When you could slide down the arc of the old rainbow
We take two chop it in half
And go back to one and one
There's been a whole lot of light
Shining through my life
But it's been coming from yesterday's sun
So I'll take these rays from yesterday
And light a way I know
Sliding down the arc of tomorrow
The arc of tomorrow
Sliding down the arc of tomorrow's rainbow

In your shopping center parking lot
Come celebrate today
Our carnival is moving in
Come and play before it moves away
We got a Fun House
We got Tilt 'O Whirle
We got such a good time for you boys and girls
We got a Super Slide and a Merry Go Round
And we got me
Grady The Clown
This carnival has treated me so well
I've lived here quite a while
With my yellow hair
Funny ears and nose
I make the children laugh and smile
Someday I know I'll be
In a circus show clowning happily
But 'till that day I'll go from town to town
The parking lot carnival's

Passing Through
I come from
A dusty road
Trading lies
For something true
This bar hasn't changed
Though it's been through many names
Passing through
Working
On the land
I gave this country
These aging hands
Let the sun cast this shadow
On these ever changing sands
Passing through
Pour me now
One more beer
Let us toast the ghosts
Of yesteryear
Though their hands have turned to dust
Their spirits ride the wind
Passing through
I come from
A dusty road
trading lies
for something true
It's something we all share
For I am just as you are
Passing through

As The Eagle Cries
There's a lantern on a branch
It glows against the sky
Fire sparks golden wings in the night
And the eagle cries
So we laid to rest our country down down down
People gazed as banners waved
Goodbye to every town
Down the stream on rocks
The moss still grows
Yet time will free the likes of thee
Who wait for the next snow
All ideals are lost the pride's all gone gone gone
Once proud to praise
Now who will raise our flag
Come the dawn
From coast to coast
And on throughout the land
Stories of our past
Were carried once again
The constitution
Faded with the years
Yet people longed to reunite
The states that disappeared
The mist shall rise
The lantern shall glow
As kindle creaks incentive speaks
To those who feel they know
And men who shall prevail over what's lost lost lost
And morning dew to wake the few
From slumber's softened frost
