Watered Down I've looked away But not long enough to forget I don't want to see all the things I've been doing To water down So off I walked Through mirrors I watched every step And faces laughing at me in my mind I feel Watered Down Where are the rules I set Where did all the words go? Then maybe nothing's gone wrong I don't know Like playing roles There are things I don't want to accept My unfinished songs are all piling up I feel Watered Down Goodnight world I guess I should be glad just to be But sometimes I'm not always sure I guess I'm just Watered down Watered down

It Takes Love David Shepherd Grossman ã96/2005 I have grown in many ways Known a lot of years a lot of days Felt more than I can put in words But there's one thing that I know you might have heard Chorus It takes love you see To live It takes love you see To give This I know, this I know, but it's so hard to show From me to you I don't know what to do But it takes love I was small But weren't we all Time passed slow Kicking cans Across the snow In my dreams I was more Than I am now But it takes more that dreams To get you through The things that cloud your view Chorus

Alone 04:50 video
Alone Newspapers piled on the lawn The trains roll on the rails into the dawn My cigarettes are gone I'm miles from a store There's no one here to tell me What I came here for Chorus I've been alone I've been alone I've been alone I've been alone too long I cook for one Then I am done I've got a deck of cards They keep me warm and I talk to the sky And I named all the stars 'till I ran out of names Chorus And it leaves me The music sometimes leaves me alone You don't need an empty room To be alone You don't even have to leave town You can be anywhere with anyone And feel like you're the only one around Chorus Repeat 1st verse

The Way That You Wait Somewhere out on a broken road There's a love for me I want to know I want to know I want to know I want to know Look for love and there's none to find Close your eyes and forget the time It's not the wait It's the way that you wait for love to come around >From the mountains to the sea Within the concrete of industry There's a line that you can not see Breaking your heart again and again There was a time once long ago And where it went I'll never know I'll never know, I'll never know, I'll never know, I'll never know You look for love and there's none to find Close you're eyes and forget the time It's not the wait It's the way that you wait for love to come around >From the mountains to the sea Within the concrete of industry There's a line that you can not see Breaking your heart again and again There was a time once long ago And where it went I'll never know I'll never know, I'll never know, I'll never know,  I'll never know You look for love and there's none to find Close you're eyes and forget the time It's not the wait It's the way that you wait for love to come around

Nothing Like Love Words and Music by David Shepherd Grossman Chorus There's nothing like love Nothing like love Nothing like love You will know when you got it You will need nothing else You will know that you got it When you need nothing else From the bar in the alley Where the lights shine down To the lost and the lonely Keep your feet on the ground To the ones in the buildings Don't let your heart slip away Keep you mind off the time It will happen someday To the rolling journey That never ends Use your eyes like a window See that your heart don't bend Chorus Let it go You don't have to hate it You will shine When it's real Heal yourself and then another Can help you know the way you feel From the bar in the alley Where the lights shine down To the lost and the lonely Keep your feet on the ground Chorus

Silent Eye Words and Music by David Shepherd Grossman Grossosaurus Music BMI He let her down Now what’s he going to do He can make it break it take it with a sigh But you can’t walk away from a silent eye Can’t walk away from a silent eye Oh the river rolls down Watch it roll on down the hill If I had a raft and a little bit of time I would ride the river ‘till we both stood still Ride the river ‘till we both stood still Moon she rests upon the water Slept so still I forgot her Let the daylight carry her away Ran out of tears There were just no more to cry He had line had tackle had bait in the pail But he was trying to catch a fish from the water well Trying to catch a fish from the water well He let her down Now what’s he going to do He can make it break it take it with a sigh But you can’t walk away from a silent eye Can’t walk away from a silent eye

Back Down 01:58
Back Down Haven't you Had enough of me For one night? Chorus It takes a little love to back down It takes a little love to back down It takes a little love to back down Back down You say, "I'm going to roll over you then leave. I'm going to see what we can do About you and me." Chorus Why open fire on me? We claim the higher side is all we'll ever need It's so unfair for you Yet fair for me Yet fair for me Back down

The Fighter There's no backing down from the fighters When they've got you in their sights They'll use all they have to crush you Make themselves look right To bring you down may bring them up And lower you some more They'll be no hand held to help you up When you lay on that floor Then boast to those above them And later make it light They feel empowered by the soul Whom they've harmed that night And rise up in position While those beneath them fear Who'll be the next to suffer Come promotion time next year? The fighter in the corporate ring Is subtle at the hiring When threatened does the firing Then fear destroys all love The fighter must feel in control They think that keeps them living But only love can heal a soul And love it comes through giving The name tags may get altered As promotions are obtained How many souls were hurt by you For title you have claimed? You see it in the faces As they grow old and still Every fight that was provoked to keep them on the hill But only love can heal a soul And only love's worth living There's nothing here we can control it if no one's left forgiving The fighter

about

This mood of this album was inspired my Joni Mitchell's Court And Spark and Jackson Browne's Saturate Before Using. I say that because I was listening to those albums in between recording sessions for this album. In 1996 I was living with my future wife in a trailer in the AZ desert. I was performing around Phoenix and Scottsdale. I had made cassette tapes that I sold at my gigs and Lauren Marovich , the person who handled all my cassettes, asked if I wanted to record again. I really wasn't sure. I had no desire to market my music but had a lot of music I had been writing. I checked out the studio with Lauren and met Andy Kern. I recorded about 9 piano vocal tracks in one day. Andy would become a great friend and creative partner who I trusted to bounce ideas off of and produce my music That was the beginning of In Sight. Jim Brunberg and Jeff Pehrson (from Box Set) sang harmonies on Nothing Like Love while Jeff sang on It Takes Love and Back Down. Anne Reed sang on Silent Eye. John Ebinger played bass on Watered Down and The Fighter. Jason Montero and Joe Frost from The Woodband played on Silent Eye and The Way You Wait. This was a labor of love.

Watered Down was while I was living with Tim Dawe who wrote for the band It's A Beautiful Day. I wrote it on the piano in the basement of the house we rented. 1981

It Takes Love: Written at a time that I felt pretty secure in life. I was living with my girlfriend Geri and working at Cable Oakland. It was 1987.

Alone was the feeling I had for most of 1990 'till 1992. I wrote the song to fit the feeling in 1993. Another one of my songs lyrically inspired my Mickey Newbury.

The Way You Wait; An affirmation to myself.

Nothing Like Love: IUsed to sing this at The Albion in San Francisco. I sang it there with Jeff Pehrson and Matt Twain one night on the old piano in the back room. There was no one else back there. I think Jeff Pehrson and either Matt Twain or Jim Brunberg sang it with me in the back of the Albion one night and years later Jeff and Jim sang it with me on this recording.

Silent Eye: A song about the feminine side of things like the moon, the earth..."He let her down" starts the song off...I feel that way about all things feminine...it is sometimes difficult to garnish the respect required by those things that bear, support, and nourish life.

Songman: I was thinking about Mickey Newbury who called me every 4 to 6 months after we met in the late 1980s It was then opened for him at the old Sweetwater in Mill Valley. I thought of him as the Songman. Now I think of myself as The Songman....I also think there are millions songwriter's who never get heard and it is to all of them I dedicate this song.

Back Down: I don't understand why it is so difficult to walk away..except for the social pressures around that say you must always win. .

The Fighter: There are so many arenas that never get credit for all the battles going on in the world. This one is about the office place.
